 Jeremy
Wisot has been practicing law, first in Los Angeles County, California,
and now in Tucson, Arizona, for more than 30 years. He is a graduate
of Stanford University and received his LL.B. from the U.C.L.A. School
of Law, where he was an editor of the UCLA Law Review.
Over
his career, Jeremy has handled a variety of civil matters, from early years,
when he was a trial attorney, to more recently, when he was involved in
the legal aspects of commercial real estate development. In Tucson, his
practice has focused on estate planning as well as transactional real estate
and business matters.
After
serving as the Managing Partner of a boutique law firm specializing in
shopping center development law, Jeremy was instrumental in merging that
firm into a large downtown Los Angeles full-service law firm, where he
was a partner for approximately seven years and served on some of the firm's
most important committees. For the past few years, he has operated as a
sole practitioner.
Among
the more significant matters, for which he has undertaken primary legal
responsibility, are (i) the development, and the later expansion, of an
enclosed regional mall containing four major department stores and more
than 350,000 square feet of leaseable space in Los Angeles County, and
(ii) the redevelopment and reconfiguration of an enclosed regional mall
into a two-level "power center” housing more than 30 well-known retail
and entertainment establishments, most occupying 30,000 square feet or
more, in San Diego County.
In
addition, for approximately 20 years, Jeremy performed services as outside
counsel to Carter Hawley Hale Stores, Inc., a prominent national department
store chain, handling property acquisitions and sales, long term leases,
REAs and other operating agreements and CC&Rs, and real estate financings,
developing consumer credit forms, policies and procedures, reviewing and
negotiating vendor and licensee relationships, and overseeing store security,
business and personal injury litigation and general business matters.
Over
the course of his career, he has regularly and frequently prepared and
negotiated various types of contracts, including sales, purchases, leases,
licenses and service agreements, prepared organizational documents for
various types of business entities, including closely-held corporations,
limited partnerships and limited liability companies, handled compliance
with statutory requirements for business organizations, including state
securities qualifications, maintained corporate records and advised business
owners on various operational issues.
Presently
a significant amount of his practice is devoted to analysis, counsel and
document preparation for individual clients on plans for transfer of wealth,
during life or following death, including wills and testamentary trusts,
revocable "living" trusts and irrevocable trusts, as well as the processing
of estates and trusts through probate administration. His clients vary
from persons with limited assets who just want to make sure what will happen
if they die unexpectedly to those with significant estates who need a plan
tailored to take advantage of the techniques available to reduce the burden
of estate taxes.
Jeremy
is an active member in good standing of the State Bar of Arizona and the
Pima County Bar Association and is a member of the Board of Directors of
the Northern Pima County Chamber of Commerce. Martindale-Hubbell, the preeminent
directory of lawyers and law firms, has given him an "a v” rating, its
highest.
